Your Quick Start Guide to Building a Skincare Routine

Your Quick Start Guide to Building a Skincare Routine

January signals the beginning of a fresh chapter—a perfect time to set new goals, let go of the old, and welcome the new. If you're thinking about decluttering your skincare collection or finally nailing down a solid routine, we’ve got you covered. From mastering the essentials to exploring the extras and learning the correct way to layer your products, this simple guide will help you effortlessly curate a skincare routine.

1.    Get to know your skin

Before you part with any cash, you’ll first want to identify your skin type and any skin goals you have. Are you oily, are you dry, are you somewhere in the middle or a mixture of both? Take stock of how your skin looks and feels first thing in the morning, 30 minutes after cleansing and at the end of the day to get a good idea of how your skin behaves.

Next, decide on what you want to target: breakouts, hyperpigmentation, signs of ageing? Or are you simply looking to maintain your skin’s health and glow? Get clear on all of these factors so you can buy with intention, not based on what’s trending.

2.    Start with the basics

● Cleanser - Gently cleanse morning and night, double cleansing in the evening if you are wearing makeup and sunscreen. The Pollufree Makeup Melting Cleansing Balm makes light work of removing makeup without leaving the skin stripped.

Moisturiser - Perfect for year-round use, the innovative Rice Pure Gel and Cream Moisturiser offers customisable nourishment so you can adapt the formula to what your skin needs at any given time.

Sunscreen - A minimum SPF 30 + worn daily (unless you’re inside, in the dark). Sunscreen can also replace your AM moisturiser if your skin is on the oilier side and you want to keep layers light. Sound like you? We’d recommend the Sun Project Light Sun Essence SPPF50+.

Anything beyond these three steps is optional. However, if you have concerns you wish to tackle, such as dehydration, breakouts, hyperpigmentation and wrinkles, or you are looking to maximise your glow, you may want to invest in step 3…

3.  Address your skin goals

Amp up hydration. Incorporating multiple lightweight hydrating products is often considered an optional step in general skincare routines. In K-Beauty, however, it's a must for achieving a radiant, smooth, and supple complexion. Investing in hydration and barrier-boosting mists, toners, essences, or serums is key. Our best-selling Rice Pure Essential Toner pairs beautifully with our Cream in Ampoule for a glass-like glow.

● Target concerns. This is where your more active formulas come in. Think serums and exfoliants. To keep things streamlined, choose one serum for the AM and one for the PM.

- Serums: Beneficial for the treatment of all skin concerns, we recommend using an antioxidant serum in the morning such as the Bakuvita Revitalizing Ampoule, which contains vitamins C and E, helping to protect the skin from environmental damage whilst reducing signs of premature ageing. It also contains bakuchiol, a plant extract that aids skin generation, making it a brilliant choice if you want one serum that provides benefits both day and night.

- Exfoliants: The K-beauty approach to skincare is gentle and barrier-focused, favouring regular use (1-3 times a week) of mild exfoliants over high-strength formulas to gradually smooth and illuminate without aggravating the skin. Our Rice Pure The Real Scrub Pack combines the exfoliating power of bentonite clay and rice bran with hydrating glycerin and soothing gardenia florida extract to nourish and resurface.

4.   Added extras

Masks, eye creams, and facial oils are all additional steps that can complement your routine, depending on your goals, time and budget.

5. Layering

Got your skincare routine sorted? Here’s the correct order of application:

1.    CLEANSER
2.    EXFOLIANT/MASK
3.    TONER/MIST/ESSENCE
4.    EYE CREAM
5.    SERUM/LIGHT TREATMENT OILS*
6.    MOISTURISER
7.    SUNSCREEN

*Heavier facial oils are best applied at night as the last step in your routine.
